Diesel BMW 7 Series: what changes with a remap
Nothing is bolted on in a diesel remap. The ECU's stored maps for injection quantity, rail pressure and turbo boost are rewritten within safe limits, and because diesels make power through torque, that is where the improvement is most obvious.

Among the 8 diesel 7 Series engines we have figures for, the 725 TDs 143 (e38) ranks 2nd for power gain, exactly the 7 Series diesel average.
